Emergency Management
Emergency Management Plan
Council's Municipal Emergency Management Plan (PDF 603kb) guides us in how to prevent, respond to and recover from emergencies within the Shire. The plan has been put together by Council and local emergency service organisations. It maps out how we, as a community, can respond to disasters such as loss of life, destruction of property, and dislocation of communities.
Plan Objectives
The broad objectives of the Plan are to:
- Implement measures to prevent or reduce the causes or effects of emergencies.
- Manage arrangements for the utilisation and implementation of municipal resources in response to emergencies.
- Manage support that may be provided to or from adjoining municipalities.
- Assist the affected community to recover following an emergency.
- Complement other local, regional and state planning arrangements.
Municipal Emergency Management Functions
Council accepts responsibility for management of municipal resources and the coordination of community support to counter the effects of an emergency during both the response to and recovery from emergencies. This includes the management of:
- providing emergency relief to combatants and affected persons during the response phase;
- providing extra resources to combat and relieve agencies during response and recovery;
- assistance to agencies during the response to, and recovery from emergencies;
- the assessment of the impact of the emergency; and
- recovery activities within the Shire, in consultation with Department of Human Services.
