Fire Danger Period - What can I do?

When is the Fire Danger period in Bass Coast?

The Fire Danger Period in Bass Coast Shire runs from 1:00am on Monday 23 January 2012 and will remain in place until 1 May 2012 unless revoked earlier.

What is a Fire Danger Period?

The Country Fire Authority (CFA) declares the Fire Danger Period annually in each Victorian municipality. The start date depends on local vegetation and weather conditions - if winter and spring has not seen a lot of rainfall and vegetation is dry, the period will be declared early and vice versa.

Can I or can't I?

The Fire Danger Period means any fires in the open air are subject to legal restrictions. The CFA has prepared a fact sheet (PDF 130kb) on what you can or can't do during a declared Fire Danger Period and a Total Fire Ban. It is ideal to print out and keep handy at home. If you would prefer a copy posted to you, contact the Bushfire Information Line on 1800 240 667.

Fire Danger Periods in other areas

If you are travelling out of the Shire and wish to know what restrictions are in force in that area, the CFA's website is the best place to check before you leave.

Campfires on public land

It is important to remember that in State forests, National, State and Regional parks and other reserves, Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) fire restrictions remain in force all year round. Local DSE and Parks Victoria offices can provide advice on what forest or parks campfire restrictions apply.
