Plants vs Weeds
Do you need help to choose the right plants for your environment? Free brochures are available from Council to point you in the right direction on what you can plant and whatare classified as weeds within Bass Coast.
Indigenous Plants of Bass Coast
Our Indigenous Plants brochure (PDF 3.6MB) is specifically targeted for our Bass Coast environment. Our region is home to a wide variety of local native or 'indigenous' plant species. The plants listed on this brochure have adapted to local conditions such as soil type and climate, they require less water and there is no need to import soil or fertilisers. Indigenous plants are important for a number of reasons, including their value as habitat for indigenous animals.
Currently less than 10 percent of the original native cover remains in Bass Coast so help our environment by choosing locally indigenous plants.
Common Weeds of Gippsland
Weeds threaten the health of Bass Coast's natural environment and agricultural areas. The Common Weeds of Gippsland brochure (PDF 1MB) helps identify almost 80 species of our region's worst weeds. Colour photographs are provided for easy identification and tips on how to control and eradicate these weeds are included in the brochure.
Environmental weeds can invade and out-compete our native plant communities, resulting in the reduction of plant diversity and loss of habitat for native animals. Please help us help the community in an effort to reduce and control the impact of weeds in our environment.
